Matt's Dirty Thirty Party

Today is my brothers 30th birthday. I REALLY can't believe he is that old! I used to think that 30 was, you know, just plain old. Now that my brother is officially 30 and I am only a few years away, I don't view 30 as old anymore.

I feel really bad my brother has no idea we have a surprise get together for him tomorrow night. I got a text from him a few days ago that said "turning 30 on friday just doing a low key happy hour at Bay Cafe." I feel terrible. I hope he doesn't think his friends would let this golden opportunity slip on by without celebrating.

We are going to NcDevin's tomorrow night around 8 and my brother is supposed to show up at 8:30. We will see if that will actually happen. My mom is worried he is going to go out tonight on a bender and not be able to make it out for a 2nd night of celebrating tomorrow.

I can't wait. I hope he is surprised. We have made sure all of his best friends from high school, college and current have heard of the party. The only bummer is the new woman in his life already had plans to attend a wedding, so she won't be able to make it out. But, cute thing is my brother finally wants to introduce her to the family and wants to bring her out for his family birthday dinner on Sunday night.

The puppy diary

Yesterday was the first time I questioned our decision of getting a dog. I feel trapped with her and it sucks. She is crated for 9 hours while we are at work so I feel terrible putting her back in the crate if we were to go out on a Friday night. At least a baby is allowed to go where adults are allowed to go. We can't take Izzy out to dinner, to the mall or the movies and I feel bad asking to take her with me to friends' houses unless they specifically invite her. No more happy hours after work on Friday since I have to rush home to let her out. Don't get me wrong I love her, and she is so happy to see me, but life was so much easier without her. Not to mention my broken finger because of her and the trip to the "hospital" Thursday night.

Damn dog thinks it is funny to steal the dish towels from the kitchen so we chase after her. I finally got the towel back from her on the steps, I went to swat her butt with the towel and caught my finger on the top step. I thought I was going to die, well at least throw up or faint from the pain. I called my mom crying to see what to do for a broken finger. . . duh, ice and then maybe an x-ray. I called to make an appt after it swelled and hurt worse after an hour than when I originally hurt it. I am such a baby. Friday morning was so much fun getting ready. Marvin had to help me get dressed. I had to decide on clothes that were easy to get off in case I would have to go the bathroom. It feels a little better now, but is still swollen and bruised and I can't really move it without any pain. Really I am such a baby.

I am working sat school today from 8-11 so the dog is crated once again, but at least I won't feel bad crating her tonight while we go out. Marvin and I have reservations at Real Seafood in Annapolis. It is in the new parole shopping mall near PF Changs and The Chophouse. The menu looks great so I am excited!

In honor of Guiliana and Bill. . .

So I don't think it is any surprise that yes, I am addicted to reality TV. Some of my favorites are The Hills, Guiliana and Bill, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Kendra (but only because she was married the same day and on the same flight as marvin and I to St. Lucia for our honeymoon. Now I think we are some sort of soul mates so I am forced to watch her show) etc.

In honor of the latest Guiliana and Bill and the Rancic challenge, I think we should come up with some challenge or a few mini challenges and have a couples competition. I think it would be so fun to get a couple of couples together and hang out. We should try and plan a (warm) weekend where we all get together. Not sure what we could compete in, but we could do a couple of miscellaneous events that are nonathletic. A few ideas are jenga (random I know), relay races, tennis, some sort of softball throw or soccer/football kick, maybe even a kickball game. If anything it would be nice to have a "friendly" kickball game where we can bring the kids (or puppies) and maybe a picnic. I have a pavillion and kiddie ball field right near our house on the water with breath taking views :)

Let me know what you all think. I feel like I haven't seen any of you for a LONG time. I know we are all busy with our own lives, but I think if we schedule a date for far in advance, maybe this idea would work!

Are you in?

So I guess it is time for me to submit another post since I haven't in a LONG time.

I do enjoy reading the blogs of my friends, but while I am at work the kids keep me so busy I can never find time to commit to writing.

I had the greatest work week last week. I was off monday, 2 hour delay tuesday, off wednesday, full day thursday, and an in-service on friday (no kids, just staff) although I worked from 8 until 11:15 because of the snow. It was the best week ever! This week has proven to be just as great, although I will be hating life if we have to make these days up in the summer. I have heard the rumor we may not need to make them up since it was declared a state of emergency for the dec 19-20 snow storm and this new storm. I hope the rumors are true!

Marvin and I were all snowed in (like everyone else) sat and sunday. YES, that is right, Marvin gave himself a day off Sat! We had a nice relaxing weekend together with Izzy of course. She loves the snow and likes to play king of the mountain. She is such a tough little girl. . . well she is 13.4 lbs now. That reminds me, I found Izzy a boyfriend. His name is Rodney and he is 5 months old. He is a little pug. I exchanged numbers with the woman in case we do decide to whore out our dog. Every ounce of me is saying I should. I think my baby would make BEAUTIFUL puppies! We (really I, since I haven't involved Marvin in much of this planning) will wait until next year around this time so Izzy can grow up a bit and be the best mommy ever. I love dogs so much and I would love to have a few puppies running around for 8 weeks. No, I would not be doing it for the money and yes, I do know there are complications that can arise with a small dog pregnancy, but I think we could handle it, at least financially. I may have just jinxed us, but I will keep my fingers crossed. There is only about a 10% chance possibility of this really happening, but it is up from 5% last week. It is getting close to the 6 month spaying timeline so this needs to be under discussion ASAP!

I am currently snowed in at my parents house. Of course Marvin had to work today so I had him drop me and the pup off at my parents on the way. God love my husband, I think he is one of the hardest workers on the planet. I have to give him credit for running the shop on his own for almost a year now and having really no help from anyone. He works 6 days a week and most of the time way past the 6 pm closing time. He busts his butt running around fixing cars and then has to go behind the other workers to make sure everything is done right. He just hired his first mechanic since his Dad and Uncle passed away. He has been taking on the workload of not only his regular mechanic work, but in addition to now running the place and losing his uncle as a mechanic. He has stress of producing the workload of 3 people. Not to mention the nagging wife that calls everyday around 3 pm to complain about her day. He must think she is crazy for the "stress" she thinks she has :) This is in addition to trying to renovate the house. Marvin tries to get things done when he gets home late on the week nights and then on the weekends, but again that nagging wife just wants to have everything her way and hang out with friends, go out to eat etc. He really deserves a break. We have talked about applying to HGTV curb appeal or something. We would really like to add a porch onto our house and landscape the yard. I have also tried to talk Marvin into applying to Survivor. I broke down and finally watched this past season. It was pretty good and I think Marvin would have a good shot since he is such a sweet person and such a hard worker.

I love him!

I guess this enough blogging for now. Maybe again tomorrow since I have the day off :)

Back to work

It's back to work today after a long 16 day break. I thought I would be dragging and dead tired this morning, but I got up early (the puppy needed to go out) and I was out the door at least 20 minutes EARLY. This never happens! I am just anticipating what I will feel like by the end of the day or tomorrow morning. I keep telling myself to think positively!

I do like the thought of having a routine, I guess I am just OCD. But, on the other hand it is nice to be able to sleep in (after I get the dog back to sleep after she goes out and eats. . .) and do whatever I feel like during the day. It gets old quick, but in the moment it is GREAT! I can't wait until this Sat morning when I can sleep in and do nothing. . .except clean the house and catch up on the laundry.

One thing I did notice today is my work pants were a little tight today. Although I don't think Marvin minded since he stared at me while I got ready this morning. Usually he falls back asleep, but not today. There is a fine line between having curves and being plump. I don't need help in the curves department, God knows I was blessed with hips. It is when I feel my butt, hips and thighs jiggle when I run, which I did notice yesterday when I had the dog outside and as soon as she was done we would sprint to the front door. I haven't felt my thighs jiggle like that forever. Back to the grind I guess. I was hoping the work out stage would end just like acne is SUPPOSED to end after you end puberty. I guess not :(

Getting in the spirit :)

I got the job!!!
I hadn't heard anything from CSM (College of Southern Maryland) since I sent in my resume. I was getting worried, but I got an email last night asking if I was still interested. I will start on Jan 19th and the semester ends on May 5th. I am so excited, but NERVOUS! I have never taught a college level course, let alone an online course. This will be quite interesting. I am glad to have the opportunity to teach at a college AND online. I have heard 90% of classes will be taught online in the next 10 years. I wonder how that will impact my high school teaching job???

Apparently, this should be a piece of cake, although that is coming from a man that has taught at the college for 11 years. He said he would give me everything I needed and I could bounce ideas off of him if I ever had questions. I hope he is right!

I took off yesterday to get caught up on things I haven't been able to do because my puppy is so demanding. I keep comparing Izzy to having a baby, but sometimes having a baby is easier. ONLY in the fact you can take the baby almost any place and it is legit. The puppy however can not go to the bank, gym, grocery store, mall etc. Marvin and I have nothing at the house to eat. We are even out of milk so cereal is out of the question. . . unless we have it dry. Anyways, so I took off and got most of my errands done. Well really I just made it to the gym, not to work out but to cancel my membership since I NEVER go, to the mall to finish up my shopping, and to the vet. The vet was awesome. I love that place. Everyone is so nice and they were telling me how to save money instead of raping me when I went to pay. They sent out everyone who worked there to come see the "adorable" puppy up front. It was a great morning because she was so tired she slept like a baby in my arms for about an hour and didn't mind when I put her in her crate so I could take a shower.

On to shopping. Someone should seriously take my credit card. I am terrible when it comes to buying gifts for people. Well only in the sense that I justify my purchase because the person would LOVE it and it is Christmas. Really this is just for Marvin. I think I buy him something whenever I am at a store. It is sad. He saw wrapped presents under the bed and asked who they were for. When I told him Santa came early and they were his I think he was nervous because he doesn't want to be outdone. He wants to get me something equally awesome and now he is sweating it. Not to mention my birthday is on Sunday so I get extra presents :)

I am excited for the snow, but I hope it doesn't interfere with my facial appt with my mom tomorrow! An early birthday present to myself, oh yeah and that outfit I bought yesterday when I was out shopping. Seriously, I need to stop. Thank god today is payday!

12/12

My life has been pretty chaotic recently. It seems I never really slow down especially on the weekends. Work has been stressful, parents are always so pleasant around interim and report card time. . . can you sense the sarcasm??? My students need my constant attention and can't seem to do anything without my help. I am REALLY scared for our future! I hope they can only learn and grow into respectful, intelligent, and independent adults.

Marvin and I have been so busy on the weekends. First it was working on the house, well really it is Marvin working on the house and me cooking and tending to whomever is over helping. Now we are so busy with visiting family for the holidays. Whatever happened to having one thanksgiving (by the way I HATE turkey) and one Christmas? It seems we now celebrate every weekend from Thanksgiving break until I go back to school on Jan 4th. I guess it doesn't help that every female in my family was born in December. We are constantly packing up and spending the night somewhere else. I can't remember the last time we were able to sleep in on a sunday at our own house.

My moms birthday is today. We usually celebrate it just us by going shopping together and getting a facial as a present to each other for our birthdays (mine is on the 20th :)) Facials are postponed until next weekend!!! This year the only thing my mom wanted was for the family to get together and go out to dinner; mom, dad, me, marvin, matt and monica. The only problem is my dad and brother are falling apart. My dad had a tooth pulled this week and my brother had surgery yesterday for his hernia. I think my dad is doing fine, espcially considering the pain killers they gave him, but my brother had major surgery. He still thinks he will be able to go out to dinner tonight, but we will see. . . It didn't sound too good last night when I talked to my mom and my brothers leg was still numb hours after surgery.

Finally our puppy. Izzy is absolutely amazing. I love her so much and I am really glad we got her. Except now I have to rush home after school each day to let her out of her crate. She is still young and small so she has a problem holding it from 6 am until 3 pm. My parents puppy sat for us Thursday since I had an appt in Annapolis after school and wouldn't be able to make it home to take her out beforehand. She loved being with her grandma and granddaddy, but she really needs to get on a schedule. Marvin and I talk about how much she has changed our lives. I think mostly for the better, but it is so hard to potty train her. The back door we have taught her to go to when she needs to go out just recently broke so we have to change it up on her and she is so confused. She was getting really good about letting us know when she had to go out too :( Last night she was passed out laying on my lap. I mean dead asleep where her eyes were rolled to the back of her head. It was weird because she will usually sleep for 1-2 hours like that, but all of a sudden she got up walked over towards the end of the couch and starting peeing. Marvin and I think she was sleep walking because she didn't squat or anything it just starting coming out of her. When we startled her, I don't think she had any idea what had happened. It was really weird. My poor little puppy. . . thank god we got the stain repelling stuff on our couch for that sort of thing!

Winter sports season has just begun and in the first 2 weeks of games, out of the 5 events, I am working 4 of them. This was great before I had a puppy to take care of, but now I just feel guilty rushing home to let her out and play with her for an hour and then put her back in her crate until Marvin gets home. Working games is a lot of extra time at school, but I love being at the games and the students love it too. Not to mention the extra pay. The only thing is like today when I am working saturday school from 8 - 11 and I worked the basketball game last night. It is just a lot of time away from home. Marvin used to come up after work and watch if it was a boys basketball game, but Izzy has changed all of that. I know I won't be complaining when I get my extra pay check at the end of the season and you can't beat saturday school pay, it is $41 an hour! I just couldn't say no.

Even though I love the holiday season, each year I just can't wait until my life settles down and goes back to normal!
